Durham Pop-Up Lutra Cafe & Bakery Opens Its First Permanent Location at American Tobacco Campus
From Farmers Market Favorite to Full-Time Neighbor
DURHAM, N.C. (June 26, 2026) — American Tobacco Campus (ATC) welcomed its newest tenant as Lutra Cafe & Bakery opened its first brick-and-mortar location in the Noell Building on the Durham campus. Owner Chris McLaurin built a devoted following over the past two-plus years operating as a pop-up at the Durham Farmers Market and hosting Sunday brunch at Cheeni, and the move to ATC marks the next chapter for one of the Triangle’s most anticipated restaurant debuts. The 2,600-square-foot space was designed by West Workshop, built by Gateway Building Co., and brokered by Elm Partners alongside the CBC Real Estate leasing team. Lutra’s new location sits next door to Ment Beverage Co. and brings McLaurin’s signature sweet and savory buns, 100-layer hashbrowns, deli sandwiches, and a full coffee and espresso program to the campus daily. Lutra joins a lineup of locally rooted food and beverage businesses at ATC that includes Boricua Soul, Parker and Otis, Queenburger, and Seraphine, with East of Texas and Fullsteam Brewery expected to open on campus later this summer. The addition reflects ATC’s ongoing commitment to curating a diverse, community-centered mix of dining and retail that serves tenants, neighbors, and visitors alike. Lutra is open seven days a week: weekdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an expanded weekend brunch menu launching in July.
